Default transmission fluid level

I have a 2004 toyota echo and I was going to do a tranny flush at 55000kms.
I decided to check the fluid level and noticed it was down about half a litre. I have no leaks around the tranny and there is no fluid on my driveway. Is it possible I got the car with the fluid level like this. I bought the car brand new. a mechanic said that the fluid doesn't just evaporate. My car is running fine no problems with the tranny. any ideas...
