One thing I do is clamp the brake line, and loosen the bleeder screw, and when I push back the caliper piston the old fluid goes into a container. I do not like pushing dirty brake fluid back threw the ABS unit as it takes a very little dirt, and you are buying a new unit, I always change out the brake fluid when I change brakes, I have a pump to drain the reservoir, then I fill it, with new fluid, do the brakes, release the clamp, pump up the brakes, and bleed until clean fluid comes out, top up reservoir. A friend had an ABS unit fail after doing brakes, and was told it was from dirty fluid. I like to learn from others mistakes.
